Top films of Jean-Luc Godard by LMdC


To celebrate JLG’s 81st birthday, I’ve decided to make my Top of all his films. Since he is a living legend and one of the most influential directors of all time this list is a work in progress because I haven’t seen all his films. His final film; Film socialisme is the conclusion of his colossal filmography. A proper review for this film will be posted here as soon as I watch it.

  1. I think we have the same top 5, maybe just in a different order. But like you there are still many JLG films that I haven't seen, especially his later stuff. For me it seems almost like the work of two different men. Pre and post 68.

  2. The order of this Top 5 can easily switch but it will kept the same movies. There is indeed a switch between before and after May 68 and the Dziga Vertov Group phase. The lack of narrative of his later films is hard to get us to fully appreciate his rich films. Anyway I'll try to catch them all.
