Saturday Morning Music Post – Daft Punk, The National, Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats + blindspot : CCR

This week we came back with a selection of more accessible albums that may or may not have been on your radar.
Let’s do this alright?
Daft PunkRandom Access Memories – 2013
Honestly I have carried the opinion that electro wasn’t music and that it wasn’t worth my time. Now, I retract this affirmation because it is clear that people who are into electro like to work, play, and create with a strong musical sense and an infinite knowledge of almost any genres. With Random Access Memories I discovered Daft Punk. As read in many other reviews it clearly has sounds of the 1970’s and 1980’s but it is brought to a level of reinterpretation that one wouldn’t expect. It is an album that grows at each and every listen with me.

The NationalTrouble Will Find Me – 2013
Lately it was a time of catching up in music and new music. Even if Indie Rock is one of my favorite genres, The National isn’t a band I listened. With Trouble Will Find Me I might fall for their sound. I can’t compare it to their previous efforts but I can say that it is cleaner than I thought it was gonna be and the songs are very intimate. It is a little bit slow for my tastes but the quality of the songs and the entire album makes it a must.

Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats Mind Control - 2013
This mysterious sludge/stoner rock outfit released recently its third album of Black Sabbath admiration and Satan mysticism. With sounds of 1970’s dirty rock and enough of sound and noise to scratch the paint off your new car it sounds like a Challenger of the late 1960’s and early 1970’s. Even if it is reminiscent of good old Sabbath, it has a genuine sound that makes you want to take the instruments and jam along the songs. This is my new discovery of the moment. I would suggest to grab the three albums eyes closed.

Blind Spot
Creedence Clearwater RevivalGreen River – 1968
For those who are not in the know, I am a collector of everything. Since almost ten years I started a vinyl collection. Recently, I bought the Green River vinyl for 1$ in a flea market and I’ve been addicted to the sound of this band that has been so prolific in the late 1960’S that I can’t understand how they managed to release as much albums! There are lots of other releases by CCR that could have appeared here but I choose this one because it has Bad Moon Rising, Green River, and Lodi just to name a few of the great songs on this classic album.

  1. I've been catching up on new music too.

Daft Punk: Those electronic vocals take some getting used to, but I did enjoy: Give Life Back To Music, Get Lucky, and Giorgio by Moroder.

The National: I especially enjoyed the first three songs on new album. The rest of the tracks were a bit forgettable I thought, maybe it will grow on me.

    1. I think Giorgio by Moroder on that Daft Punk album is awesome. I also like Get it Right and Contact, the last two songs of the album.

For what it is of The National I'll need to dig up their earlier work to be able to make comparisons but I liked it.

    2. Agree those last two tracks are fantastic. And also that moment in Giorgio by Moroder when he finishes speaking and the music starts. Chills.
